Part of the ever-expanding flood of musicians making their way out of New Jersey, Matt Mondanile is the pop-sensitive man behind the bands Real Estate and Ducktails. Known for sweet harmonies and jangly riffs, he collides crisp sounds with something more ethereal. Here, Mondanile tells us about ten things that move his world.

  1. S.O.S. Band

"Weekend Girl" is my favourite song of the moment. It kinda sounds like "All Night Long," but even more smooth. The track explains a girl who is too busy to go out on the weekday, but by the end of the song, a voice is telling her to party on the weekday and live a little. I love this.

  2. Hot Pot City

It's a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. It has a Taiwanese soup with an incredible broth and an unlimited buffet.

  3. Heatsick

This is the one man project of Steven Warwick, a resident of Berlin. He makes house music with a Casio and is incredible. Warick's album, "Intersex," is on the PAN label.

  4. The Westway

I am not a clubber by any means, but I love going here on Fridays and dancing with my pals. DJ Roctakon is really good. Sometimes the Olsen Twins are there, which is wild!

  5. Blues Control

I am really excited for Blues Control's next album. I just saw them play, and the new stuff they played totally blew me away. I think their next album is coming out on the Drag City.

  6. "Inner Tube"

A record by Mark McGuire of Emeralds and Spencer Clark of The Skaters. It is a tribute to '80s Australian and New Zealand surf-film soundtracks. It is the best shit I've heard in a long time.

  7. The New Age Music Guide by Patti Jean Birosik

A great comprehensive index of 500 new age musicians from around the world. A great read!

  8. Woo

Woo is a new age band from the UK in the ‘80s. Consisting of the Ives brothers, these guys make incredibly soothing alien new age music. Check out the album "It's Cosy Inside."

  9. Dario Argento

This guy is one of my favorite directors! I love Phenomena and Tenebrae. His vision of cinema is what I want the world to look like. I love the soundtracks scored by Goblin, and the clothing is designed by Armani.

  10. Franco Falsini

He is an Italian musician. Franco was a member of the group Sensations’ Fix. He also released a solo album called "Cold Nose." I am pretty sure John Elliott from Emeralds' label Spectrum Spools is reissuing it this year.
